WordPress. It’s a word you’ll hear frequently at the RA office and that’s because it’s our go-to platform for content management and website development. A content management system (CMS) is essentially a software that allows you to create and publish content to your website. There are many different content management systems out there and with so many choices, you may be wondering why we love WordPress so much. Read on to find out!
WordPress is open source
When it comes to content management systems, there are open source options and proprietary options. WordPress is an open source CMS platform which means that the code is available to anyone to study and improve. Other proprietary options are owned solely by the individual or company that made it, and typically have restrictions on use. When using proprietary software, you are limited to only the functionality that the platform’s developer has created. Because WordPress is open source, it is free to use without paying ongoing licensing or usage fees, and there are options to expand its functionality available from hundreds of sources (read on about plugins!).
WordPress keeps things organized
Whether it’s a simple splash page or a complex e-commerce website with thousands of products, WordPress makes it easy to stay organized. Pages, posts, images, and other website features are all easily accessible and simple to update.
WordPress websites are customizable
When you think of WordPress, you may think of the word ‘template.’ It’s true, WordPress does have templates that can make it easy for the average person to get their own website or blog up and running quickly. However, WordPress also allows you to develop custom themes. That’s where we come in. We are able to design a completely unique-to-you website and because we use WordPress, the backend of that website will remain easy for anyone to use, not just the person who developed it.
WordPress offers plugins
A plugin is a piece of software used to add additional features to or extend the functionality of your WordPress website. There are thousands of WordPress plugins available for almost anything you can think of. Whether you want to simply add a contact form to your website or enable e-commerce capabilities, there’s a plugin for that.
WordPress is SEO-friendly
At Rosenberg, we believe in optimizing for both users as well as search engines in order to drive the most organic traffic possible to your website. From clean code to title tags and meta descriptions and more, WordPress makes it simple to incorporate SEO elements and best practices into the sites we build.
WordPress has a strong following
There is an extremely large (and growing!) community of WordPress users. This means there’s always new plugins becoming available and that it’s easy to find answers to common WordPress questions.
WordPress allows for team collaboration
WordPress allows you to create multiple users for each website each with different login information. You can pop into the platform and see who made edits to which pages or posts and when. Additionally, you can review past content revisions and revert back if necessary. This can be extremely helpful when you have a team of people working on one website.
WordPress is easy to use
Last but not least, our favorite WordPress characteristic is that once a site is built, it’s easy to use. Anyone (and we mean anyone!) can make updates to a WordPress website with minimal instruction and no coding background. We can even develop custom fields and page layouts to make it even simpler.
